Sorry, I dun have an answer to your question, but I do feel that you are giving up a lot to marry the girl.

It's not easy being a VN citizen, IMHO.

I thought that VN girls would rather give up their citizenship than to ask you to be VN citizen?! Anyway, it is already not easy to get VN PR, much less to be VN citizen!!!!

Most VN people would rather give up their VN citizen as they can still qualify as Viet Kieu and still enjoy the priviledges of VN citizen like buying land, etc.

A Viet kieu is a Viet has lived most of his life outside of Vietnam. I'm not sure of the specifics... I'm sure someone can help me out here... but I do believe these are Viets by parentage only.

Again I may be mistaken, but Viet Kieus do get a lot of privilieges back in Vietnam, e.g. huge discounts on big ticket items like cars and houses.

You can only become a Viet Kieu if you can trace your family roots to Vietnam, i.e. either you are born there or your parents are former citizens there. Basically, the Cong An there will trace your origins and as long as your roots can be traced to Vietnam, you can be a Viet Kieu and issued a Viet Kieu status by the government. So if you have no roots in Vietnam, you can never be a Viet Kieu. If your baxa marries you and move over to Singapore, she can apply to be Viet Kieu even after she surrenders her Vietnam citizenship.

You can apply for a P.R. provided you have valid reasons like running a business or married to a local Vietnamese. However, the length of the P.R. is relatively short... it starts off with something like 6 months and you need to renew with the local Cong An and so far the longest P.R. pass issued is 3 years.

PostSubject: Decree spells out criteria for Vietnamese citizenship applicants    Mon Oct 25, 2010 5:06 pm

The ability to communicate with local residents in the Vietnamese language is among the requirements for foreigners seeking Vietnamese citizenship, according to a decree announced on the government website.
The decree, which will take effect on November 10, also stipulates that applicants must have a valid permanent residence registration issued by authorized police agencies in Vietnam.
Applicants will also have to prove that they have the financial standing necessary to lead a normal life in Vietnam, or they must have the confirmed support of organizations or individuals in Vietnam.
However, applicants that don't meet certain criteria may be granted citizenship if such a move would benefit Vietnam's social and economic development or advancements in the fields of science, sports, national security or defense.
Overseas Vietnamese and those of previous Vietnamese nationality will also be allowed to regain their Vietnamese citizenship under the amended law.
Vietnamese who have immigrated outside of Vietnam illegally have technically lost their citizenship, but they have not had it officially revoked.
The amended law states that overseas Vietnamese whose nationalities have not yet been revoked can apply for official Vietnamese citizenship.
Prior to the law, any Vietnamese taking up citizenship in another country officially lost their Vietnamese nationality. But with the new amendment, they will be allowed dual citizenship in certain cases.
According to the decree, both overseas Vietnamese seeking Vietnamese citizenship and others seeking dual citizenship need to register with Vietnamese representative offices abroad before July 1, 2014 to ensure their official Vietnamese nationality.
The decree also stipulates that Vietnamese citizens are not allowed to change their citizenship if they owe taxes or debts to individuals and organizations in Vietnam that notify relevant agencies.
