Yeah, there were quite a numbers of Singaporean based in HCMC & Hanoi. I used to work in HCMC for a year in 2008. Rented a 2 bedrooms apartment for $600usd on the 20th floor in D5 very near to D1. Very safe and convenient place indeed.

| I am wondering what are the career opportunities, eg. Accountancy, Engineering, Banking, Real Estate, for Singaporean to work in Vietnam, particularly Ha Noi and HCMC. Not attachment for 1 or 2 years... but at least 5 -10 years, preferrably as an Expat. Any ideas? | |

| Worked there for 3 .... days, counted or not? LOL... Not trying to be funny here. I was there in Y1999 for software installation, because of the Y2K bug. Those in IT will know what I'm talking about. Worked in a law firm here and we happen to have a branch in HCM. It's guerilla warfare for me. Day 1 - Arrive and start work. Day 2 - Again work Day 3 - Out and on the way to Shanghai. Was pretty green then with the cheong scene there at that time, but my local colleague did spend his 2 evenings bringing me around in town, looking for girls. I was so mesmerized by VN girls in Ao Dai then, and was asking him whether got WLs going around looking for cust in Ao Dai or not. Funnily, at that time, WLs are going around, looking for customers in bikes. Colleague told me they are termed as "Honda Girls". As for accomodation, stayed in a 5 * hotel along Dong Khoi Road (or something like that). That was also when I found out that normally girls are not allowed to be brought in to reputable hotels. Had to do my deed in a small room in a local clan house (会馆). Was so afraid that something might happen to me then. (Well, something did happened... After i came and was going to proceed to wash up, girl say got cong an and had to leave immediately. After I reached my hotel, then I realised my hp missing. ) Ok, so maybe this isn't what you are looking for. Just take it as pleasure reading lah... Just came back from Bunker and too awake to go to sleep.... | |

Opportunities are everywhere in a developing country like vietnam. It is either you work for a singapore company or viet firm. Some singapore friends that I met in HCMC love the city so much that they resigned from their singapore employment and work for a viet firm in the marketing field. Honestly IMO language is the main concerned.

| I'm in a terrible dilemma. I have a job offer for a permanent posting in HCMC. Permanent, not term. Still thinking if I should take it up. | |
